How to Find Your Perfect Wedding Videographer

Picking a wedding videographer can be an overwhelming and challenging experience. Even in little New Zealand, we are spoilt for choice and see a wide range of videography styles, pricing, and services across the country. While the range of options is great, it can also make finding the perfect videographer for you and your unique wedding more challenging. To help, I’ve put together a short post detailing five simple tips to help you find the perfect videographer to capture your unique love story.
Now, while this guide is focused on videography, all of the points will also apply to photography, so I hope you find this information useful for this area of your wedding planning too. Let’s get into it!

Tip #1: Watch Lots Of Films
Firstly, it’s very important that you watch as many films as you can. This will help you understand what style of film would best reflect your unique relationship and wedding day.
Some videographers will have a cinematic style, which is an approach that focuses on achieving very beautiful, stunning, and sometimes dramatic footage. Normally this approach is more music-focused, with less dialogue. Others will have a documentary style, which is more focused on the storyline, dialogue, and journeys of individual characters. Many videographers, however, will have a mix of both, which is my personal approach.
There is no right or wrong answer here, but it is very important that you find a videographer that is creating work that resonates with you. If you’re watching a film that makes you laugh, cry or sit back in awe, then you’re probably on the right track.
In the wedding video below, you’ll notice how I use different music, pacing, and editing style to separate out the more romantic and delicate parts of the day (first half of the video), with the more upbeat and party emotions (second half of the video). Tip #2: Ask For Vendor Recommendations
Vendors will often know some fantastic videographers, as they will have likely worked with them professionally in the past. Photographers and venues are typically good vendors to ask, as they will have first had experience dealing with local videographers. You’ll also be booking these vendors around the same time as you’re booking your videographer.

Tip #3: Check Reviews
Always check recent reviews/testimonials before booking a videographer. It’s a great way to get an accurate idea of their strengths (and any weaknesses). Google Business pages are normally the best places to find the most reviews. You can check out over 30+ five-star reviews on my page here.
Tip #4: Pick Someone You Like
It sounds obvious, but this is sometimes overlooked. You will literally be spending your entire wedding day (possibly the best day of your life) with your videographer and photographer. So you need to make sure your videographer is someone that will connect well with you and your bridal party. The best way to ensure you get someone great is to give them a call (or meet them in person) before booking. This is a great way to get a good feel for their personality, approach, and attitude.
